Jen Shank of Missouri is incredibly proud of her sewing heritage and loves to tell a particular story about her mother's youth
My momma was playing outside as a little girl when she saw something fall off the back of a truck that happened to be a bolt of royal blue fabric. Consequently, a bolt of fabric was a boon to her family living on a very tight budget back then! My grandmother made curtains for several windows in the house from that fabric, but my Mom begged for the leftovers to make herself a robe.

It makes me feel as if I was destined to sew. I learned by watching for sure, but mostly, I like to think it was my legacy to sew.

Trying to stay current is hard -- there is a fine line between current and yesterday’s news! Sometimes you have to take some risks and that means there will be some inevitable failures when doing so. I also avoid mimicking my competitor’s designs, so that helps to make my products stand out a bit."

Jen does a lot of remixing of her work. Whether her onesies, dishtowels, shirts or others, she's able to make small changes for a customer based on a previous piece, or start completely from scratch with her endless supply of fabrics and patterns.
She's always keen for her next challenge and loves to see her work on the final owner!
